Fishing for Compliments is a fishing mini-game played with an unorthodox controller: a physical fishing rod! The controller detects movement along an axis, inviting players to mime real fishing motions, such as casting the line by swinging the rod forward. The reel of the rod is connected to a rotary encoder, allowing the player’s physical crank rotations to directly progress the game. 

You can't really experience this here, so the mouse controls are:
Left click to cast a line, and proceed dialogue
Hold left click to reel
A to move the net left, and D to move the net right
